GLL continues successful leisure partnership with Kensington and Chelsea
GLL has been awarded a new management contract to continue operating public leisure facilities in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for the next 10 years.
Working in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, GLL – under its customer brand, Better, will remain the operator of Kensington Leisure Centre and Chelsea Sports Centre, continuing to provide outstanding, affordable, accessible sport, leisure and wellbeing facilities for local people.
The partnership will see GLL continue its commitment to improving lives throughout the borough, with long-term investment into the community. This will include a free Better Pay & Play membership card for all borough residents, giving access to discounted rates on sport and leisure services.
GLL will also invest in the local community through its Community Foundation, contributing both financial and in-kind support to a number of projects that encourage local people to get active, learn and play together.
In addition, GLL Sport Foundation will also support 27 talented young athletes from within the borough.
Following the start of the new contract, improvements are planned for both of the borough’s public leisure facilities. Kensington Leisure Centre will receive a health and fitness upgrade, with the installation of new equipment and improvements to the gym floor.
Further improvements will include the extension of the Spa Experience offering, as well as the introduction of a brand new soft play facility.
Similarly, Chelsea Sports Centre will also receive an upgrade to its health and fitness offering, improving equipment and studio space as well as the introduction of a new ‘dry spa’ area, offering a wide range of treatments.
Simon Sen, Regional Director, GLL said: “We are delighted to continue our successful partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for the next 10 years.
“As a charitable social enterprise, we exist to provide affordable, accessible leisure facilities in the communities that we serve.
“We’re extremely proud of our work in the borough to-date, and we look forward to continuing our commitment to investing in the community, providing employment for local people, engaging with community groups and providing outstanding sport and leisure facilities, to help get more people more active, more often.”
Cllr David Lindsey, Kensington and Chelsea’s Lead Member for Healthy City Living, added: “I am pleased we are able to continue working with GLL. We are committed to offering residents more opportunities and ensuring they have every support with their health and wellbeing. This new contract offers some exciting new offers, particularly cheaper sport and classes for residents and new activities in parks and housing estates as part of a new pop up offer.”
