GLL adds Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex to successful council partnership
GLL, the UK’s largest leisure charitable social enterprise, has been awarded a new management contract to operate four public leisure centres in the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Following a successful competitive tender process, GLL will work in partnership with Hillingdon Council to manage the facilities until at least 2030.
GLL has managed three council-owned facilities in Hillingdon since 2009 (Botwell Green Sports & Leisure Centre, Highgrove Pool & Fitness Centre and Queensmead Sports Centre) operated under its customer brand, Better. The new contract also includes the addition of Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex.
As part of its social enterprise ethos, GLL reinvests financial surpluses back into the communities it serves, as well as in-kind support, to improve lives of local people, generating a social value of £434m per year nationally.
Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex will come under GLL management from 23rd February. In the coming months, GLL will begin a programme of improvements, including a refresh of the complex’s health and fitness provision, with upgrades to gym equipment as well as functional and studio spaces.
Further works will include an upgraded reception area to improve the customer experience.
Simon Sen, Regional Director of GLL, said: "We are looking forward to bringing even more residents of Hillingdon the distinct ethical and community benefits of our not-for-profit, charitable social enterprise, delivered under our Better brand.
"Customers will benefit from our emphasis on customer service, backed by a big investment in digital technology that will make accessing their favourite activities easier and quicker. And because we are socially-purposed, all our surpluses are reinvested in local communities to boost participation and wellbeing for everyone."
Cllr Jane Palmer, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Social Care, Health and Wellbeing said: "We have exciting plans for Hillingdon's leisure facilities and we look forward to working with GLL, who have more than 25 years of experience in the leisure industry, to bring the benefits of a more active life to residents of all ages.
"This agreement will boost and build upon our extensive leisure offer, while providing good value for money."
